Mahjong with Maghon

 

Maghon Taylor is also an certified instructor of her new favorite game, Mahjong!  Her name seriously autocorrects to Mahjong every time you type it, so she's been interested for a while, but officially fell in love this year playing with friends.  

To Learn to Play Mahjong, You'll Need a NMJL Card, Tiles and Racks.  I play with optional accessories like a neoprene mat (so tiles can slide easier) and shufflers which we sell at the studio!  I've linked a few of my favorites that I've personally purchased below.  This post contains affiliate links.

My Starter Set

If you're looking for a budget friendly starter set, THIS is the one I began with!  I bought this whole kit, but then upgraded to this colorful and cute mat!  This cute little travel set is on my wishlist! 

Cards are released every year from the National Mah Jongg League.  You can buy those here.  We also sell them at our live events for $15. 

You May Also Enjoy Having

The square tables I use are a little bit larger than standard card tables!  I love that they fold in half and are easily portable.  I also bought these tablecloths to dress them up a little bit!  They come in a ton of colors! I also like to play with a rechargeable lamp in the center of the table to make it easier to read the cards and tiles!

Learn Mahj with Maghon

This game is just as much luck as it is strategy, but it can be pretty tricky to learn on your own!  Maghon teaches monthly Mahjong classes at her All She Wrote Notes Studio in Gibsonville, where you can learn the basics with her cheering you on!
